Bail Proceedings
Bail represents a security deposit which guarantees to the Court that an individual will honor their promise to appear at a future date. The amount of bail will depend primarily on the severity of the crime which is being charged.
In most cases, bail can be posted at the police station within a few hours after being arrested, even if it is on a night or weekend. This allows an individual to avoid remaining in lockup while the charges are being formally brought. Otherwise, bail can be posted directly with the Court at some future time during the proceeding.
If an individual is unable to post the entire amount of the bail, they may contact a Bail Agency which will post the remaining amount that will allow for the individual’s release. It should be noted, the percentage that is given to the Bail Agency is usually kept as their fee.
